Rates Rise on Sticky Inflation
Market opens on dramatic drop

The market was hit with a double whammy of slower growth and higher inflation today which will keep rates higher for longer over the near term. Wall Street is looking for tomorrow's March core-PCE report to show a +0.3% rise and +2.7% increase YoY, down from +2.8% in February.

As mentioned last week, with inflation sticky and the Federal Reserve now projecting that it is likely to take longer to meet conditions to cut interest rates, the dynamics of the market have changed. The rally that was triggered off the October lows by a dovish Fed that saw a pivot in rates has become more uncertain after three months of hotter than expected inflation.

The technical condition of the market remains positive with the Dow, S&P 500 and NYSE closing the month at new highs. The technical indicators are positive but upside momentum, as measured by the 14-day RSI, has slowed as the rally off the October lows stretched for a fifth consecutive month.
